Maradona case becoming ‘trial by media’ according to defense lawyer

In relation to leaked evidence to the case around the death of Argentinian football star Diego Maradona, the defense lawyer argued that “there is an intention to produce a trial by media, a trial prior to the delivery of justice, and that is not good at all.” The leaked evidence was a medical report alleging that the footballer’s medical team acted in an inappropriate manner before he died, and suggested medical negligence. The report was shared to various media outlets before it was given to prosecutors, although it contains information and allegations about people that are currently under investigation in the case. The famous football star’s death received broad media coverage in the South American country, prompting finger pointing about who was to blame. Apart from the medical report, audios and chats of the defendants have also been disclosed at pre-trial stage.
